velvet wrap dress: c/o Closet London - shaggy faux fur: Primark - snakeskin winklepicker boots: & Other Stories - pearl necklace: my mother's - rings: Diamanti Per Tutti

One could argue that New Year's Eve is the best opportunity every year gives us to dress up to the nines, pull out that dress you've been saving for a special occasion, make that extra effort on your hair and makeup and to wear that piece of jewelry that just feels too fancy for everyday wear. And this year, I did exactly that.

Closet sent over this velvet wrap dress just before the holidays and the MINUTE I put it on, I knew three things. First: this was probably the most flattering and feminine dress I own. Second: it seemed to prove to me what I had already sort of noticed: my shape has become more curvy and feminine over the past year or so, and I love it. Third: this would be the dress I would be wearing on New Year's Eve. For reference, I'm wearing a UK10 and the dress is super stretchy, so you don't have to size up (which I usually do in Closet London).

Because my top two-thirds were already so glammed up, I paired the look with a more comfortable pair of shoes. These snakeskin boots were a Christmas present from my love, and I couldn't be more happy with them. I know that material possessions aren't everything, but I really appreciate it that my partner knows my style, knows what I like. It shows me that he cares, that he notices me and my little idiosyncrasies (like the fact that I hate red shoes and love sea creature themed jewelry) and that he respects me enough to make an effort. All of that means more to me than any pair of shoes ever could - although this particular pair of winklepicker boots is pretty damn rad.

& Other Stories never fails at making a their footwear utterly irresistible to me, and I had been looking for the perfect pair of 60s London gangster/mod boots for as long as I can remember. Love their contrast with the velvet dress, and they were infinitely easier to dance in than a pair of heels. Proof:

Hope you like the look! What did you wear for NYE? :-)
